Object Description

A good framed university rowing team photo of the 1884 Ayerst Hall boat crew, Cambridge. The photos are framed in a traditional oak frame with gold slip, although with some water damage and fading to the mount. The picture is with a team photo on the left and a picture of the crew in their boat on the right. Mounted on the official photographers mount with calligraphic legend and arched windows.
It shows the names and weights of the crew as:-

Object Literature

William Ayerst (1830 – 1904) opened a hostel in 1884 at Cambridge, Ayerst Hall, designed to aid men of modest means in obtaining a university degree and theological training. The hostel eventually failed and was occupied by St Edmund\’s House (renamed St. Edmund’s College).
