This work was given by the artist John Klimo to actress Vivien Leigh on her birthday. Leigh wrote to Klimo, “‘I am absolutely overjoyed to have the beautiful birthday present you have devised for me. How could you know that this is my favourite Lautrec poster: in fact, I have a copy at home and have always thought what fun it would be if and when Sir Laurence and I go to a Fancy Dress Ball we should appear as these two characters.”

A non-selling exhibition of a room-set furnished with pieces from the homes the British actress shared with her husband Sir Laurence Olivier will be on display at Haynes Fine Art, London, until 31 March. The decorative room-set provides an insight into the actress’s personal life showing her passion for interior design and modern British and colourful French paintings.
