Object of the Week – Pair of Lead Garden Figures
c. 1800
H: Male:135.5cm; Female 130cm

A rare pair of late 18th century – early 19th century Continental lead garden figures; each in romantic-esque pose dressed in period costume. Each on circular bases, and retaining a high definition of casting, the male leans on a post with his foot resting on a spade whilst the female carries flowers.

The pair was Probably supplied for the garden of Hyning Hall, Wharton, Carnforth, Lancashire, a country house owned by the Peel family, wealthy Lancashire industrialists circa 1809. Hyning Hall was sold by family descendants in 1973.
