15 metre yachts Ma’oona and Vanity racing at Harwich Regatta, 1909, by Martyn Richardson Mackrill, water colour, framed, with a paper label from the Royal Exchange Art Gallery, Cork Street, on the reverse stating ‘Martyn Richardson Mackrill, 15 metre international rating class yachts racing at Harwich Regatta, May 18, 1909, Ma’oona and Vanity leading the class’. English, circa 1995.
Footnote: Martyn Mackrill was born on the Isle of Wight in 1962. His grandfather owned a fleet of trawlers and his father was a marine engineer in the Merchant Navy. After studying art at Portsmouth Art College and model making at Sunderland Polytechnic, he held his first one-man exhibition at Cooper Fine Art on the Fulham Road in the 1990s. He is the honorary Marine Painter for the Royal Thames Yacht Club, artist of the Royal Yacht Squadron, appointed in 2015, a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Institute of Watercolourists.
