Object Description
This is an especially fine 17th century oak coffer. It is finely carved with fluted pilasters and arched panels. The oak is a wonderful colour to which these photographs to not do justice. The lock and hinges look original, although the hinges may have been moved to a new position when they became loose many years ago. A coffer is a useful item for everyday use and we have seen them under televisions, on landings full of clean bedding or by the front door full of shoes. They are very tough and have a lot of storage without either visually or physically encroaching on the room. This is an especially pleasing coffer with unusually fine detail.
