18TH CENTURY AUBUSSON VERDURE TAPESTRY
With an exotic bird wading in a pool of water. On the right hand side is a folly with a fountain, the water pouring from a mask down into the base which is shaped as a shell. In the distance is a faded pagoda, to the left a palm tree and to the right more fruit trees. A parrot is seated in one of the trees and another bird flies overhead.
Surrounded by a deep red, dark blue and yellow border decorated with palmettes. Woven in wool and silk and signed underneath ‘MRD AUBUSSON GRELET’.
France c. 1760.
Backed in linen and ready to hang. The colours predominantly green, yellow and brown, the tapestry is in very good condition.
