Object Description
An excellent18th century ormolu-mounted amaranth and kingwood vitrine, with a rectangular mottled white marble top with canted corners and a pierced metal gallery, above a frieze drawer veneered in imitation grooving, with a glazed upper section and paneled lower section, opening to reveal three shelves. The lower section and the sides displaying a marquetry of highest craftsmanship, each with a central compass rose extending to cube parquetry and geometric strap work. The whole above a shaped apron with a gilt bronze mount, on cabriole legs with gilt bronze sabots of hoof feet.
A beautifully executed vitrine may serve as a display cabinet or library, a piece with a distinct marquetry design and original trefoil shaped key and cylinder a highlight in our collection.
