Object Description

19th century English ceramic anti-slavery motto cup hand painted with floral sprigs flanking abolitionist script: ‘Health to the sick, honour to the brave, success attend, true love and freedom to the slave’. Slightly tapered form, with good bright gilt borders and applied painted flowers. 9 cm high.

The Anti-slavery movement in England achieved success at home in 1807 and then across the empire by 1833.

Object Condition

Excellent condition with none of the usual wear to gilt and painted decoration.
