This beautifully executed portrait is painted onto porcelain, allowing it to retain its magnificent lustre, well over 100 years after it was created. The painting depicts a bust-length portrait of a young woman, with dark hair tied up in a 19th Century style with flowers, wearing a pink chiffon-type dress. The portrait bears an indistinct signature to the lower right hand corner, and markings to the reverse. The porcelain plaque is set within a gilt bronze frame, decorated all over with foliate and arabesque motifs, and featuring a laurel wreath and bow to the top. The frame has a hinged and stamped supporting arm to the reverse.
