Object Description

A folding mahogany and boxwood military compass, with marquetry rule and bearing a label of instructions and a calculator of inclines. invented by a professor at the Military academy of St Cyr called General Paul Peigne in 1877.

This interesting compass was invented to assist commanders in calculating the incline of a slope to see if it was viable for infantry to march up.
