Object Description

A fine French provincial burr walnut veneered three drawer Louis XVI commode. The sides have fluted pilasters above turned tapering fluted legs. Having a Nero Portoro marble top.

Stamped COURTE.

France circa 1780

Height 34 inches, width 49 inches, depth 22 inches.

Jean Baptiste Courte (20 September 1749 – 28 April 1843), cabinet maker, he achieved his master status on the 20 September 1777 in Dijon.

A marquetry commode of comparable form by Courte is preserved in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon.

His work is mentioned in several books;
