Object Description
As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large Meiji period Bronze vase depicting scenes of Oni’s being chased by the word Shoki after a famous painting, this exquisitely patinated multi coloured heavy Bronze vase depicts a pair of Oni’s in high relief and apparently being chased by Shoki, on this occasion depicted as two large onlaid characters SHO-KI, the vase also bears the artist name “Ukka Hoitsu” ( Art name Sakae Hoitsu ) from the original painting, and a rectangular seal, the segment shaped top and red Autumnul patination add to this vases unique decorative charm.
