A good late 18th century, terracotta portrait bust of Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) after John Michael Rysbrack (1694-1770). Circa 1800. (Restored)
The current bust is a copy of Rysbrack‘s Portland stone portrait bust of Newton in the Temple of British Worthies at Stowe, 1735. The material used is ball clay, a fine clay from the south west of England which explains the pale colour of the terracotta.
