Object Description

A Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912) bronze jardiniere with molded swimming carp decoration and elaborate dragon handles.

Object History

Carp

Due to them being the only fish to conquer the waterfalls of the yellow river carp represent courage and strength in Japanese culture, the gift of a Koi carp is believed to grant the receiver great strength.

Object Condition

Condition – Excellent, the unfinished inner lining of the vessel has some very minor wear as expected with age and use.
