Object Literature

Over 200 years ago, as fruit became steadily more available, the silversmiths designed the berry spoon to provide a decorative way of handling fruit. The gilding of the bowl in this was all-important, for it protected the silver from the acidic fruit juices. Spoons with elaborate bowl displays of berries or fruits are referred to generically as “berry spoons”, even though they almost inevitably show displays of fruits.
