A Fine Pair of Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze and vert d’eau Enamelled Ten Light Torchere Candelabra.
French, Circa 1880.
The bronze variously numbered to the reverse ‘2445’.
Each torchere has an ovoid vase issuing a fluted stem with two tiers of scrolled candlearms. The vase which terminates in a berried finial is supported on triple guilloche cast monopodiae headed with classical masks and united by a richly cast undertier, centred by a conforming vase and cover.
Reputedly forming part of the furnishings of the the Hermes Villa in Vienna, this sophisticated pair of torcheres are of exceptional quality with superbly cast and gilded bronze figurative mounts.
