Object Description

A rare Renaissance Sculpture with the subject of a Blacksmith Making a Chest Plate of Armour.
It is very rare to find carvings with the subject of the daily life, most of the time the subjects are religious.
In this case you see the blacksmith in his workshop with one figure by the fire with a pair of bellows and a young apprentice sitting by a water tape.
The blacksmith is hammering a chest plate of armour.
Carved in a heavy piece of oak.
This complete carving was never a part of a piece of furniture, but it was part of an insert off a stone wall decoration.
Continental circa: 1550
32cm high 27.5cm wide 8cm deep

Object Condition

In very good original condition with wonderful beautiful old patination.
