Object Description

For sale are these really lovely set of six silver and enamel (butter) knives by Bernard Instone. Each one is fully hallmarked and signed for Instone, Birmingham 1929. These represent Instone at his inter-war peak. Each knife is fashioned as a single piece of silver, including the blade. The handles are beautifully enamelled in vivid floral colours using champleve enamel technique. The backs of each handle are hand hammered in the arts and crafts style. Condition is excellent with age appropriate scratches and nicks to the silver blades. Enamels are original and near perfect. The six knives come in what I would judge to be the original leather or leatherette box. They are a good gauge of silver.
Bernard Instone was a leading Birmingham School jeweller from the later arts and crafts period. He trained under the Gaskins and was known to make jewellery for Sibyl Dunlop.
