A Superb ‘Egyptian’ Style Carriage Clock
In the manner of Thomas Cole

Constructed from cast and gilded brass, extensively engraved throughout and incorporating Egyptian motifs, the rectangular case encompassed by four tapering columns terminating in architectural finials and rising from recumbent sphinxes; the sides of the case with elaborate engraved filigree and Moorish strapwork, the silvered circular dial with rocaille engraving and denoting the hours in Roman numerals with an outer chapter ring marking the minutes, with blued steel hands; with dials for a manual calendar below; the top of the case with two addorsed sphinxes and an Ankh– one of the most famous and used symbols of ancient Egypt-forming the carrying handle. The movement with single chain fusee movement and vertical lever escapement.
