Object Description
A very fine mineral specimen vase made from fluorspar
Continental, 20th Century
Height 22cm, diameter 12cm
This small, elegant, and vibrant piece is an excellent decorative piece, carved from the precious mineral fluorspar. Also known as fluorite, it is the natural mineral form of the compound calcium fluoride, a very popular material for ornamental works.
With similar colouration to the ‘Blue John’ stone, found in deposits in Derbyshire, England, the impurities within this sample have given it a wonderful, deep, rich of pink and grey tones. Fluorspar’s natural fluorescence and rich colours have given it a long standing decorative appeal, and this fine piece is no exception.
