Object Description

An exceptional Norman Romanesque highly gilded bronze buckle, cast in the form of two fantastical birds standing; talons showing, long tails curled up and around at the ends; the body stippled to give the impression of feathers; between them a heraldic lozenge; possibly of heraldic significance. A British find.

Circa 12th century AD.

Object Condition

Very fine condition generally; crossbar missing; some rubbing to gilding.
