Object Description

An Ormolu and Marble
“Three Graces” Cercles Tournants Clock
After the model by Clodion

Of fantastic quality and modelled from finely chased and gilt bronze; the clock supported on a carved Carrara marble tripartite plinth raised on toupie feet, the three mythical Graces representing youth/beauty, mirth, and elegance, draped in floral garlands and supporting the globe containing the clock movement with annular enamel dial representing the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals; a seated putto above a bed of clouds at the apex.  The backplate of the movement is stamped with the Medaille D’argent roundel by the maker Vincenti & Cie.

The company of Vincenti was founded in Montbeliard, on the Franco-Swiss border in 1823, and ownership passed to Messrs Roux in 1834; at the 1855 Paris Exhibition they won the silver medal.
