Object Description

The city of Qum started weaving rugs only in the early 20th century, but soon established itself as the centre for exceptionally fine weavings. Early Qum carpets are prized for the classical precision of their drawings and the fineness of their weave.

What makes this particular rug unique is its colour combination and artistic characteristics deriving from Arts & Crafts – a rare feature in this type of weaving. The merino wool is dyed with natural vegetable colours. It is in excellent condition, still retaining its original fringes on both sides. It is one of a kind.
