Ancient Greek wirework earrings. A matching pair, each composed of a substantial solid gold hoop, decorated with tightly coiled fine wires around the hoop, interspersed with further intricate wirework coils and flattened circular gold details to the outer edge, smoothly tapering through to the wire closure with loop finial, fitted to top with a secure modern hook fitting, approximately 3.8cm in length from top of hook. Tested yellow gold, approximately 25.3g in weight, circa 5th-4th century BC.
These earrings are a particularly fine example of Ancient Greek craftsmanship.
These earrings have been fitted with modern yellow gold shepherd’s hook fittings so that they can be worn today without affecting their historical integrity.
