Ancient Roman gold sunburst earrings. A matching pair of earrings, each consisting of a fancy openwork plaque with domed centre and radiating surround, suspending three articulated ribbed wires with granule details to top and decorative round glass beads to bottom, fitted to reverse with secure hook fitting, approximately 4.5cm from top of hook. Tested yellow gold, circa 2nd-3rd century AD.
Complete matching earrings such as these are a rare survival from the ancient world. These earrings are a testament to the high level of skill of the craftsmen of the time and are in fine condition commensurate with their age.
