Object Description
An Ancient Roman intaglio carved from dark sard, adorned with a portrayal of stylised leaping animals. The intaglio is oval in shape, featuring a polished, flat reverse, short even sides, and a gently convex obverse with carinated shoulders surrounding the central scene. Fine incisions depict a large, tailed quadruped, likely a bull, leaping across the field with its head turned backwards towards a smaller animal beneath, likely a dog, portrayed springing from its hind legs. The intaglio features some very minor wear to the surface and a small indentation to one side. This piece is supplied with a museum-quality impression.
NB: Measurements are for the intaglio only.
