Object Description

An interesting Japanese abacus, which has on the larger section fifteen spindles with five wooden conical counters on each. Each counter was worth ten. These are below a further section with a single counter on each spindle worth fifty. These are fitted in a hardwood polished frame. The reverse is carved with Japanese writing, which translates as Kabushikigaisha (name of the company) and in the memory of the establishment of the company. Below this is a name of a Japanese person. There are ink marks the full width of the abacus on the counters, so this denotes that large sums of money were counted.
