Object Description
A tall and impressive antique silver altar candlestick made from thick sheets of decorated silver mounted on the front and sides sections of a carved softwood stand. This was originally a pricket candlestick and has since been electrified (not working).
Height 77.5 cms. Base 20 x 13 cms.
Made in Brussels, Belgium.
Maker Pierre Hendrickx
Circa 1820.
Marks. Belgian Hallmarks used during Dutch period 1815-1832. Stamped on each piece – “1” imported articles, “hand” hall-mark, “800” fineness and “helmet” large hall-mark (see Tardy page 85). The maker’s mark H in star is for Pierre Hendrickx, active in Brussels 1811-1840.
