Object Description

This rug is a magnificent example of Caucasian weaving from the Shirvan region, woven by hand in the 1890s. This piece features a great range of colours and variation in design including charming tribal details. The central design is a repeat pattern, symmetrically woven with vibrant colours on a cream background. This has then been framed by a layered repeating pattern border. Vibrant and bold this carpet is sure to make the perfect accent rug for any room.

Object History

Tribal Shirvan Rugs were made by the indigenous residents of the Southern Caucasus, which is now known as the Eastern and Northeastern area of present-day Azerbaijan. This piece was woven in Azerbaijan, a country is surrounded by the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus Mountains, which span Asia and Europe. This piece has been woven with the finest organic materials including hand-spun wool and cotton. This has been dyed with organic vegetable dyeing techniques, used for generations.
