Object Description
An unusual sterling silver goblet with a globular bowl raised on a tall slender column. Attractive embossed decoration of a dragon curled around the outside. Weight 201 grams, 6.4 troy ounces. Height 17 cms. Diameter of top 5.25 cms. Stamped underneath with Chinese silver marks for Luen Wo, Shanghai. Circa 1900 .The artisan workshop mark is YI AN 饴安.

Luen Wo, retail silversmith based in Shanghai, who in addition traded in jewellery, diamonds and embroideries. He produced very high quality work. His items often have the mark of the artisan who produced the piece. This firm produced items mainly in the traditional Chinese style, with classical motifs such as bamboo leaves, prunus blossoms, chrysanthemums and dragons.
