Object Description

An excellent quality antique silver inkstand of octagonal shape. Dainty size. Mounted with the figure of a dolphin and with a matching set of 2 cut crystal ink bottles and 1 cut crystal sander, all with silver mounts. Also fitted are 4 pen rests, or possibly these are for small candles. All raised on 4 winged feet, a popular decoration in the early 19th century. Weight 434 grams, 13.9 troy ounces. Length 18.5 cms. Width 11 cms. Height 10 cms. Marked on the edge, top and the dolphin with Dutch silver stamps and date letter for 1835. 934 silver grade. The maker is probably Jean George Grebe, Rotterdam.

Object Condition

This lovely silver inkstand is in very good condition, both silver and glass, with no damage or restoration. The silver marks are clear. The silver grade is 934 which is higher grade than 925 sterling silver.
