Object Description

An Edwardian kaleidoscope , having a mahogany case inlaid with boxwood stringing. They were invented in 1816 by a Scottish Physicist, Sir David Brewster. When viewed against the light they created beautiful and fascinating coloured patterns and were very popular in the Victorian Period. The whole has a pale colour and retains a patination.
