This is a superb Antique Victorian silver plated folding biscuit box made by Mappin & Webb- Princes Plate reg No 71553, circa 1880 indate.
The opening mechanism is as intricate as the laurel wreath decoration, it features a foliate engraved body sitting in a cast frame, with interior hand-pierced dividers, it opens out into two halves and is held shut by gorgeous clasps at the top. The interior retaining the original gilding.
This container could house anything from sweets to biscuits or trinkets.
