Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian Gothic influenced flame mahogany 4ft small double size half tester bed, circa 1850, with stunning grain configuration, in excellent condition. This bed fits a standard UK small double size mattress (4ft” wide x 6ft 3” long). However, if you are using a custom size mattress, the bed would fit a 4ft 4” wide x 6ft 3” long mattress, if the mattress also sat on the side rails. The bed incorporates an arched mahogany upholstered headboard with braiding detail and an arched flame mahogany footboard, which is upholstered on the inner side, with braiding to the perimeter. The upholstery is a light grey structured wool & cotton material, with cream-coloured braiding. The headboard and footboard are both supported by turned, fluted column supports, which are both topped by turned finials, above floral carved blocks. The headboard supports also boast cabouchon carvings to the base. The headboard and footboard are connected via simple side rails. The footboard features and arched panel with stunning mirror matched flame mahogany veneer. The bed rests on its original brass & mug castors.

This bed retains the original polish, which is why the bed boasts a rich brown mahogany colour and patination; it is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been stripped and re-polished. This bed would look stunning in either a contemporary or traditional setting. It dismantles for easy transportation and we can provide affordable good quality custom mattresses.
