Object Description
A beautiful small antique writing table or desk made from attractive figured and burr walnut with a replacement leather writing surface. This very useful sized antique table would make a lovely small desk or occasional table.
The top is fitted with a black hide writing surface with gilt and blind tooling. This is surrounded by a band of walnut with a ‘bull nose’ moulded edge and rounded corners.
The frieze is fitted with two drawers with mahogany linings, hand cut dovetail joints and the original locks and turned wooden knobs. Inside one of the drawers is the original ivorine furniture suppliers label ‘James Phillips & Sons, Union Street, Bristol’.
The table stands on slender turned and fluted tapering legs which have the original brass and white ceramic castors.
This is a very good quality antique table in excellent condition, it has been professionally cleaned and wax polished and has developed a rich attractive patina over the years.
As the table has been polished all round it can be used as a freestanding piece of furniture.
