Antique French Desk with Ormolu Mounts

An absolutely stunning antique French pedestal desk made from “plum pudding” mahogany veneers with superb quality ormolu mounts. This is a superb quality antique desk decorated with the original, finely cast, ormolu (gilded brass) to all sides. The top has a black hide writing leather with gilt tooling and is surrounded by a band of mahogany with a “bull nose” moulded edge with brass trim.

An absolutely stunning French antique pedestal desk made from “plum pudding” mahogany veneers with superb quality ormolu mounts.
This is a superb quality antique desk decorated with the original, finely cast, ormolu (gilded brass) to all sides.
The top has a black hide writing leather with gilt tooling and is surrounded by a band
of mahogany with a “bull nose” moulded edge with brass trim.
The top also has concealed extending slides, which are a useful extension for the working surface.
These are finished with matching hide writing surfaces.
There are three drawers and each pedestal and the top has three deep drawers fitted to the frieze, front only.
All drawers have oak linings, an ‘ogee’ mould to the front edges with the original leaf and berry cast ormolu escutcheons.
The drawers are designed to open with a key (there are 3 keys for the desk).
All locks are in working order although this desk was never fitted with handles.
The pedestals are each fitted with three drawers and the top drawer of the right-hand pedestal
has a fitted lockable security box with sliding top and a removable pen tray with four divisions.
The pedestals and have reeded columns to the front with ormolu mounts to the top.
The sides of the desk are panelled and there is a vanity panel to the back that fits snugly between the pedestals.
The reverse of the desk is magnificently decorated having raised panelling with florets in the corners and large central ormolu mounts.
This is a very impressive feature and designed to make the desk a real focal point, when free standing, facing into the room.
This pedestal desk is made in four sections, the top, two separate pedestals and vanity panel, for ease of installation.
The pedestals have plinth bases with concealed castors.

professional cleaning and polishing and a replacement writing leather.
