This is a fantastic antique French gentleman’s snakewood walking stick with a silver crook handle and bearing continental marks, circa 1880 in date.
It has a very decorative sterling silver curved crook handle in the form of a finely cast winged eagle on a tapered snakewood shaft.
It is a lovely item and as such would be appreciated by any collector of walking sticks or canes.

Snakewood is a common name of several different plants: Acacia xiphophylla (family Fabaceae) in Australia. Acacia intorta, Acacia eremaea in Australia. Brosimum guianense (= Piratinera guianensis) (family Moraceae) (Letterwood, Leopardwood) in South America, an exotic hardwood prized for its highly figured grain.
