Object Description
A good early English sterling silver lidded tankard with domed lid. Lovely plain design. The tankard has a simple baluster form, the body with a concentric reed ring to the base of the handle, the S scroll handle finishes in a decorative thumb piece. Uninscribed. Good patina. Contains 1000 ml. Weight 690 grams, 22.1 troy ounces. Height 20.7 cms (to top of thumb piece). Spread 17 cms. Diameter 10 cms (top). London 1748. Maker Henry Brind.
Biography – Henry Brind, London silversmith, apprenticed to Richard Bailey 1734, free 1742. Brother of Walter Brind. Mark entered as largeworker 1742.
