Object Description
Antique German Meissen porcelain centrepiece
German, late 19th Century
Height 44cm, width 38cm, depth 29cm
This fine Meissen centrepiece is of traditional form. The centrepiece features a pierced curved-edge and parcel gilt basket, decorated with vibrantly coloured encrusted floral sprays. The basket is set above a shaped stem, which is moulded with a cartouche and adorned with a variety of colourful encrusted porcelain flowers, all realised in pastel shades. The stem is supported on a circular base, which is set with a series of cherubs, each naturalistically rendered in semi-nudity. The centrepiece is marked to the underside for Meissen, and also features incised model number 605, impressed 148, and the number 28 painted in red pigment.
