This is a magnificent antique Italian hand-painted oval miniature of the Madonna Della Seggiola, circa 1840 in date.
This truly stunning oval miniature is housed in a highly decorative ebonised and brass octagonal frame that has a plethora of ormolu mounts that are inset with eight semi-precious stones including lapislazuli, carnelian and agate.
The scene depicts the beautiful image of the Madonna and Child – after the highly popular Renaissance painting by Raphael, it is superbly hand painted and enamelled and is finished in great detail to the highest of standards.
