Object Description

An excellent example of Caucasian handmade carpet rug weaving from the Shirvan region. Though these orange-red ground Central Medallion patterned rugs may seem like from a distance, but this woven rug has a great range of colours. This geometric rug has a variation in design including some very charming personal details.
The profusion of hook motifs, a common good luck charm on the edges of the field. These wool rugs look beautiful and are ideal for dining room rugs and bedroom rugs. A magnificent late 19th century Kazak runner with ten multi-coloured diamond medallions on a crimson field, surrounded by a large-scale tribal floral border woven in crimson and gold and blue hues on an ivory and gold background and a wonderful blue scrolling vine border on an indigo ground.

Object History

This fine rug was handwoven in Kazak, Iran, a village in the Northwest of Iran. The settlers have since moved on but the influences of Kazak design can still be seen today in modern rugs.
