Object Description

1755 Miniature Sampler by Mary Radford. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted onto acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Simple embroidered border. Colours red, blue, green, cream and brown. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-9 and family initials. Signed and dated ‘Mary Radford 1755’. A few motifs including a squirrel, crowns and flowers.

Object Condition

Generally good. Two tiny stains near the squirrel. Uniform age darkening of the ground. Some stitch losses to the border and divider lines. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang
