Object Description
This is a striking antique oil on canvas of ‘The Mother and Child’ in the manner of the old master Renaissance paintings, by the skilled Florentine artist, Egisto Manzuoli signed verso, dating from the late 19th century.
Similarly to the old master Religious artworks, Manzuoli was able to convey a tender rapport between the mother and child. The painting features the graceful and beautiful Madonna in her red and blue clothing, candidly looking at the naked Christ Child who she is so lovingly keeping in her arms. The Child returns the look to the Mother, and we can notice how the painter glorifies the powerful spiritual moment throughout the radiance of the figures, who seem almost to glow with an internal light, against an austere and dark background, which conveys a solemnity look.
It is housed in the original magnificent giltwood frame, which adds extra splendour to this remarkable work of art.
