This longcase clock—also known as a vitrine pedestal clock—has been expertly crafted from a combination of the finest materials: green onyx, red marble, golden gilt bronze (ormolu) and colourful cloisonné enamel. In its style, the clock blends classical with Islamic influences.
The clock features a cube-shaped marble and onyx case with a circular white enamel dial at its centre. This dial features a floral cloisonné enamel middle, encircled by black Arabic Numerals. The dial is contained within a gilt bronze bezel, decorated with ovolo and flower motifs. The sides of the clock dial are mounted with a barometer and thermometer, which are of similar design. Gilt bronze flower trails and beading decorates the corners of the clock case.
The clock case is set on a tall body which contains three cloisonné enamel-edged onyx and marble shelves. The shelves are set behind glass panels which are placed within decorative gilt bronze frames. Columns, with cloisonné enamel shafts featuring intricate floral and geometric patterns, are positioned at the corners of the clock’s body. These columns are topped by gilt bronze acanthus leaf capitals with muqarnas heads, and are fitted with gilt bronze gadrooned bands and bases.
The clock’s body is set on a stepped onyx and marble base on bracket feet. This base is mounted with gilt bronze flower garlands and a gilt bronze guilloche band decorated with floral cloisonné enamel plaques.
