Object Description
A pair of gilt-bronze and black marble antique Neoclassical pedestals
French, 19th Century
Height 103cm, diameter 45cm
Mounted upon large hexagonal bases adorned with gilt-bronze, this fine pair of Neoclassical pedestals are of baluster form, and were made in France in the 19th century. They feature a combination of the rich and ornate quality of gilt-bronze with the imposing presence and grandeur of deep black marble. They feature fluted columns which is part-way ornamented with a pair of sets of trailing ormolu foliates, and they are surmounted with an elegantly carved stepped circular top. Veins of white are extensively scattered within the black of the marble, which gives the pieces a great sense of history, presence and grandeur. A fine addition to any interior indeed.
