Object Description
This is a very rare pair of 18th century chairs in fabulous original condition with no sign of damage or repairs.
The chairs are of high quality made with with true artistic merit and beautiful timbers.
They are made from padouk wood, a very dense and heavy Asian hardwood similar in appearance to mahogany and rosewood and they have a lovely glowing patina.
The chairs have very tall backs, sinuous in shape with detailed carvings.
The backs have vase shaped splats and shaped supports.
The seat base is serpentine shaped and carved to the front and the sides.
The chairs stand on cabriole legs with shaped stretchers between.
The padded drop-in seats have recently been re-upholstered in a gold and crimson floral tapestry fabric.
These beautiful chairs have been professionally cleaned and polished and would look good as hall chairs, desk chairs or occasional chairs.
