Object Description
This very good quality antique desk was made by the famous furniture manufactures *Waring and Gillow. There is a metal label inside the the middle drawer stating it was made at the Lancaster factory.
It is a beautifully constructed desk made from red walnut, a timber similar in colour to mahogany. The desk is well proportioned being 60 inches (153 cm) wide x 36 inches (92 cm) deep and has been professionally restored.
The restoration included traditional french polishing, waxing and polishing and a replacement burgundy leather writing surface with gilt and blind tooling.
The top is fitted with three drawers are mahogany lined, hand cut dovetails and the original brass locks and key. The front edges of the drawers have an ogee mould and retain the original brass handles.
The pedestals are fitted with three similar drawers to the front and have panelled backs and sides and stand on plinth bases.
The desk is made in three sections; top and two pedestals, for ease of installation.
This handsome antique desk would make a stunning focal point in a traditional or contemporary styled office.
