Object Description
Antique Rococo style ormolu and cut glass twelve-light chandelier
French, 19th Century
Height 110cm, diameter 90cm
This magnificent chandelier is designed in the wonderfully ornate Rococo style of the Louis XV period. The chandelier is crafted from gilt bronze, cut glass, and rock crystal, the warm golden tone of the bronze reflected and refracted through the countless droplets and pendants.
The gilt bronze frame of the chandelier is designed in a sweeping, scrolling manner, with the bronze throughout moulded with acanthus leaf forms. The chandelier features twelve light branches, the branches—like the remainder of the bronze structure—profusely decked and draped with droplets and pendants of a variety of shapes and sizes, including many charming examples of cut glass fruits.
