This exquisite diary cover was produced in Russia during the last decades of the 19th Century. The case is rectangular in form with a central hinged spine. The silver body of the case is gilt throughout, including the vermeil cloison wire that bounds the enamel panels. The enamel panels, the product of cloisonné enamelwork, decorate the body of the case in beautiful patterns of swirling and scrolling foliage. The enamel is finished in shades of pink, blue, and red. The case is marked ‘88’, which signals 91.6% silver.
