This is a magnificent and rare collection of twenty-four splendid antique plaster intaglios of mythological Gods and Goddesses, wonderfully arranged in a stunning mahogany case, dating from the late 19th Century.
These superb antique intaglios are of various sizes and shapes and feature various Roman and Greek Gods and Goddesses including Flora, Jupiter, Neptune, Medusa, Apollo, Mars, Hebe, and Ariadne.
Each intaglio has an exquisite gilt gadrooned border and is annotated with a charming hand-written black ink label indicating the subject being represented.
This stunning set of intaglios is set within a magnificent sturdy rectangular mahogany lidded case, which is fitted with its original sumptuous red velvet interior and is suitable for hanging on the wall.

Intaglios – were originally used as seals, these carvings or cuttings are moulded out of white plaster, marble dust or wax. The original 19th-century intaglios were also made from wood or stone. The depressed designs depicting ancient scenes from Greece, Italy, etc were also used as markers of the land. They were also collected as souvenirs from European Grand Tours in 1830.
